Whiplash Traumatology & Treatment Seminar Series

The North American Spine Institute has developed a science/research based training program designed to provide the essential knowledge to all healthcare providers on how to treat whiplash and whiplash related disorders.

This is one of the only whiplash educational programs in the world that primarily focuses on the treatment of whiplash by using a multidisciplinary approach to care. This program will teach the healthcare professional about whiplash, whiplash biomechanics, occupant kinematics, crash forensics, medicolegal aspects of care, and treatment options (chiropractic, physical therapy/physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, and medicine). This program is also available through the mail. These classes will count toward credit of obtaining Certificate status with the NASI, but you will not be able to receive CE credit. For hotel accommodations and other information about the location please contact the NASI.

1	Whiplash Module 1: Basic Concepts in Whiplash : This module is concerned with the basic concepts of whiplash that allow us to understand its mechanism of injury better so that we can provide more individualized treatment plans. This module will cover the following topics: History Epidemiology Anatomy Pain Pathophysiology Grading Scales Biomechanics Kinematics Relevant Terminology Common Syndromes associated with Whiplash

2	Whiplash Module 2: Health Professional Management of Whiplash : This module is concerned with the treatment options that are available to patients suffering from whiplash. This module will cover the following topics: Chiropractic Nutrition Physical Therapy Acupuncture Massage Therapy Medicine Complimentary Care

3	Whiplash Module 3: Record Keeping and Narrative Report Writing : This module is concerned with the examination and record keeping for patients. This module will cover the following topics: History and Examination New Patient Forms Self Assessment Questionnaires Insurance Forms Whiplash Patient Reports Letters for Payment IME Reports Medical Shorthand Coding

4	Whiplash Module 4: Medicolegal : This module will cover the following topics: Crash Forensics Accident Reconstruction Medicolegal concepts

5	Whiplash Module 5: Special Tests / Imaging : This module will cover the following topics: X-ray MRI CT Thermography Bone Scans Myelography Videofluoroscopy Discography EEG – Electroencephalograms PET Scans – Positive Emission Tomography SPECT – Scintigraphy EMG – Electromyography NCE – Nerve Conduction Studies SSEPs – Somatosensory Evoked Potentials BAER – Brain Stem Auditory Evoked Response VEPs – Visual Evoked Potentials ENG – Electronystagmography CCDS – Color-Coded Duplex Sonography Angiography Doppler Ultrasound

6	Whiplash Module 6: Whiplash Advanced Research Topics: This module will be concerned with current pee-reviewed literature on whiplash. We will discuss approximately 750-1500 current research articles, including articles most commonly used in court, articles most commonly miss quoted, and articles supporting whiplash treatment.

7	Whiplash Module 7: Comprehensive Examination : This module consists of a comprehensive examination. The examination will consist of the following types of questions. Multiple Choice True and False Short Answer Essay This module is optional; however, you must take this module and pass the test with a score of 80% or better to be awarded Certificate status with the North American Spine Institute. You will have one month to complete the examination after registration
